Adult BMI calculator

Enter your height and weight to calculate body mass index. BMI is a screening measure for adults aged 20 and older, not a diagnosis.

Calculate your BMI

Choose metric or imperial units. Your entries stay in this browser.

How BMI is calculated

BMI divides weight in kilograms by height in metres squared. In US units, it divides weight in pounds by height in inches squared, then multiplies by 703.

The CDC adult categories are below 18.5, 18.5–24.9, 25.0–29.9, and 30.0 or above. The result screens weight relative to height; it does not directly measure body fat or health.

When BMI needs more context

BMI can be less informative for people with high muscle mass, during pregnancy, and for some older adults. Children and teenagers need age- and sex-specific growth charts instead of the adult categories.

Frequently asked questions

What is a healthy adult BMI?

The CDC adult screening category called healthy weight is 18.5 through 24.9. BMI is one measure and should be interpreted with your wider health picture.

Is BMI accurate while taking a GLP‑1 medicine?

The formula does not change when you take a GLP‑1 medicine. Its usual limitations still apply: BMI is a screening measure and does not show muscle, fat distribution, nutrition, or how you feel.

Does Mounjari save my height or weight from this calculator?

No. The calculation runs in your browser. The website does not send or save the values you enter here.
